CRAIG Braham-Barrett says he and his Braintree Town team-mates are prepared for their Vanarama National League relegation fight to go to the final minute of the final game of the season.

And he wants the Iron fans to stay with them all the way.

Braintree head into their penultimate game of the season - at home against Barrow AFC on tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) - sitting in the drop zone still after a mixed bag of results against two other relegation-threatened sides over the Easter weekend.

They followed a rousing 2-0 win against Guiseley on Good Friday with a 3-1 defeat at Torquay United on Monday, but Braham-Barrett knows that any one result - whether positive or negative - won’t be the end for any of the teams battling to beat the drop.

There are set to be twists and turns all the way to the end and the Iron midfielder knows they have to keep fighting.

He said: “This will go down to the wire as other teams have been picking up results.

“We just have to keep digging.

“I’ve played at these levels loads of times and I know we have a good bunch of boys in there. With the fans behind us, I think we’ll do alright.

“You can’t read too much into any one result. Look at Guiseley the other day, they came to us thinking they were probably safe and they were quickly back in the mix. Anything can happen.

“We just have to keep our heads down and keep going.

“I can only talk for myself, but I know I’m a cool character and I don’t let many things get to me.

“I think a few of the boys are like that.

“We know our ability and when you have fans like we have behind us, you can only go out there and enjoy your football.

“When you’re enjoying your football, you perform well and that’s what we have to keep doing.”

Braham-Barrett does feel a bit fortunate to be still involved in the Iron’s end-of-season run-in, though, and is determined to play a part in their survival quest.

Having been unexpectedly recalled to first-team action after playing for the reserves in the Thurlow Nunn League, the 28-year-old was sent off in his first game back against Dover two weeks ago and thought he would be suspended for the final fixtures.

However, video showed he made no contact with Dover’s Ricky Modeste and with the red card overturned on appeal, Braham-Barrett was thankful of the support from manager Hakan Hayrettin and the club.

He added: “I thought my season had been done before it had got started again so it was nice that the Gaffer backed me and a lot of the boys said the same thing that it hadn’t been a sending off.

“When I saw the video, it was clear that I hadn’t got him at all and it was good that the FA looked into it.

“I’d just like to thank everyone for supporting me.

“It was disappointing that the referee made the mistake, but we all make mistakes and I’m just glad that it got overturned in the end.

“It’s just good to be involved.

“It’s enjoyable to be back playing and at least I can help the team to stay up.

“I feel confident that we will get more results as we know we can beat anyone on our day.

“We just need the fans to stay behind us and keep supporting us because they really are our 12th man out there.

“It was brilliant to hear them against Guiseley and I’m enjoying my football.

“I think all the boys are enjoying it and we just have to get it over the line now.”
