PLAYGOLF Colchester stalwart Mick Seaman topped the podium in division one at the club's stableford competition.

Seaman (ten) recorded a card of 33 points after shooting nine pars at the event, which had a reduced field following the threat of freezing temperatures and snow.

Some of the remaining players that did battle through to the finish saw some reward for their efforts.

With the wind blowing, aptly-named junior Thomas Gale (11) blew the cobwebs off to finish second on 32 points, with four pars.

Richard Swindells (8) was third on 31 points, after shooting eight pars.

Alan Smith (18) carded five pars to return the only level par score of the day to win division two with 36 points.

John Chaplin (20) was second with 35 points, which included five pars, topped with a par-three birdie on 16.

This was closely followed by 2017 vice-captain Rob Cornish (17) on 34 points, helped by a trio of pars.

Stephen Marr (21) won division three with 30 points, finishing two points ahead of runner-up Brian Williams (22).

Paul Dafforn (24) was third, with 26 points.

Ideal conditions contributed to some excellent scores in the Ladies January Medal competition.

A three-under par score of nett 67 put Pauline Coxon at the top of the pile in division one.

Gina Macmillan was two shots back with her nett 69, while Lucy Sadler was third with a nett 73.

Newly-appointed ladies’ captain Maureen Dale took charge of division two with a very respectable nett 72.
