Hot on the heels from winning a 300-metres silver medal at the Essex championships, Colchester Harriers’ Jessica Cutts went one better by winning the Essex under-17 women’s heptathlon, at Woodford Green.

Presented, not only with the seven events to contend, she also had to combat some difficult weather conditions, largely caused by the strong winds, but she also managed to improve her personal best (PB) score with 3,914 points.

Cutts started day one well, tackling the 100 metre hurdles, in a time of 15.69 seconds, followed by a pleasing high jump clearance of 1.42m.

Her shot put of 8.16m was a new personal best and she finished the day with a 27.45s 200m.

Day two started well with a 4.63m long jump, closely followed by a 29.76m javelin throw.

Her 800m time of two minutes 36.9s gave her, her new PB score for the weekend.

Harriers were also represented at the Suffolk Championships, where Sarah Prescott-Smith won gold medals in the 70m hurdles in 12.6s, the 200m in 29.8s and the long jump, where she set a new championship best, with a 4.55m jump.
