Colchester's Sarah Claxton was unable to improve on her season’s best time when she competed in the women’s 60 metre hurdles at the Aviva Grand Prix meeting in Birmingham.
The Beijing Olympic finalist was bidding to stake her claim for a place in the British team at the European Indoor Championships in Turin next month, but could only finish fourth in the West Midlands.
The 29-year-old had run 8.06 seconds at a meeting in Glasgow in January, however, a back injury had hampered her preparations for the championships in Italy.
That prevented her from running at the previous weekend’s European trials in Sheffield as she was forced to rest to allow inflamed joints to heal.
Claxton returned from the injury in time for the event in Birmingham, but was only able to post a time of 8.12 seconds.
America’s world number one, Lolo Jones, won in 7.82 seconds, with Anay Tejeda of Cuba in taking silver in eight-seconds flat and Danielle Carruthers of the US third in 8.02s.
The British team heading to Turin is due to be announced tomorrow.
