COLCHESTER Harriers youngsters showed great fight in their second Eastern Young Athletes League meet of the season.

Team spirit was high as once again many of the club's youngest athletes continued to impress by taking on new challenges and achieving personal bests (PBs) against stiff opposition, at Chelmsford Athletic track.

Debut hurdler Georgina Smith won her B string in an impressive time of 13.3 seconds, before securing PBs in both the 100 metres (14.00s) and long jump (65 centimetres).

Her leap of 4.67 metres ranks her in the top-ten jumpers for her age group in the country.

Zion Ateba produced a PB of 12.6s in the under-13 girls 70m hurdles before equalling her PB of 1.35m in the high jump, in blustery conditions.

Under-17 athlete Katie Rice ran a nicely-executed 80m hurdles race to finish in 13.9s.

In the flat sprints, Callum McKay claimed gold in the under-17 men’s 100m in 11.3s.

Graig Anya Joseph won both the under-15 men’s 100m (11.5s) and 200m (24s) sprints to claim maximum points.

Anya Joseph's raining partner Henry Lawes produced two nicely accomplished performances in the under-15 boys' B string to claim maximum points.

He ran 11.9s in the 100m and produced a fabulous PB of 24.7s, in his 200m.

Harriers' under-15 boys' clawed back a spectacular win in the relays.

Lawes set up a blistering start with newcomers Harvey Daniels and Jack Banyard displaying good form to bring the baton round to Anya Joseph.

He stormed through from fifth place and 20 metres down to dip for the line in a photo finish with host team Chelmsford, with just one tenth of a second splitting the top three places.

Under-15 runner Kausara Ayoola made her Harriers debut in the sprints, running a stylish 13.3s (100m) and 28.1s (200m).

Despite a nervous start, under-15 athlete Eleanor Hopgood showed she could be a very handy 200m runner, claiming second place in a time of 28.8s.

Non-scoring under-15 athlete Grace Rothwell impressed coaches by running a really positive 800m race, finishing in two minutes 45.1s.

Milly Presland showed her talent by claiming a good fourth place as a first year under-15 girl in the 1,500m.

In the boys' equivalent, under-15 athlete Ziggy Lambton won in a time of 4m 27.7s in a tough competition, finishing more than a second ahead of the second-placed runner.

Harriers athletes continued their good form in the under-17 men’s middle distances races.

Archie French and Joseph Boden both secured third-place points and PBs in their 800m events, as did Max Caulfield and Danny Millward in the longer 1,500m.

Aliyah Soames won the under-15 girls' three kilometre shot putt in addition to gaining a new PB of 9.15m, while under-13 thrower Olivia Simon increased her PB by 8cm with 6.52cm.
