COLCHESTER and Tendring Athletic Club sprinter Joy Ogunleye struck double gold at the South of England AA U17/U15 Indoor Championships.

The talented teenager was in superb form in the women's under-17 category at Lee Valley, winning both the 60 metres (7.71 seconds) and 200m (25.46s).

Her times were both the fastest in the UK for her age group.

Fellow CATs member Akin Akinboah was also in action in the men's under-17 event.

He clocked 7.47s in his 60m heat and 24.23s, in his 200m heat.

CATs' 15-year-old Tom Palmer hit good form to win silver in his under-17 men's 800m race in a time of two minutes 4.95s.

Club-mate Lauren Wodiwiss was third in her under-17 women's 200m heat in 28.10s, while Jenny Palmer enjoyed a first run out in the under-15 girls' 300m.

CATs athletes found the going tough at the Essex Cross Country Championships in Woodford but stuck to their task.

Ben Miller was a useful 12th in the under-17 men's 5k, with Freddy Richardson a fine 20th.

In the under-20 men’s 8k race, Joe Patterson worked hard to come home in 12th with Elsie Gray giving it all to finish tenth in the under-17 women's 5k race.

The Essex Schools Cross Country Championships take place at Colchester Hilly Fields for the third successive year on Saturday January 21, starting at 10am.
