COLCHESTER Harriers' Adrian Mussett claimed an impressive runners-up spot at the King's Lynn ten kilometre race.

He clocked an astounding 31 minutes 52 seconds at the top-class event to finish second and also claim the veterans prize.

Harriers' Sarah Stradling was also first veteran, clocking an excellent 36m 12s for fourth place overall.

Anita Mussett also ran well, in 48m 36s.

The Essex five-mile event was held on May Day, with a very good event staged by Witham Road Runners.

Harriers won silver medals in the men's team race and bronze in the ladies, with the men also winning the team of four in the open race.

Just one week after clocking two hours 32m at the London Marathon, Chris Sellens was sixth in 27m 40s.

Colin Ridley was tenth in 28m 00s and also won the gold over 50 medal.

The final Essex team medallist was Mark Harrod who was 12th in a personal best time of 28m 24s and also took the individual Bronze medal over 40.

Jon Nears (28m 42s) made up the open team of four, while good runs also came from Paul Rodgers (29m 00s, 18th, PB), Paul Preston (29m 46sm, 24th) and Pete West (29m 55s, 26th), with best-ever times from Richard Boden (31m 04s) and Wayne Cook (31m 13s).

There were bronze medals for the Harriers ladies team thanks to Laura Shewbridge (fifth), Rebecca Cooke (tenth) and Annette Oakman (14th).

Fran Norris took the individual over-55 bronze while Toni Wilson, Rachel Rodgers, and Rachel Richardson-Wright also finished well.

Steph Horner ran a personal best and Clive White finished with her.

Ged McMillan pulled out of the Belfast Marathon due to injury at 17 miles but Andy and Louise Glass both finished well at the Milton Keynes Marathon.

At the Heritage multi terrain half marathon at Thorpeness, Ellie Mayne swept to victory in warm conditions.

There were also top ten finishes for Martyn Clarke (eighth) and Chris Manby (tenth).

Simon Smith was 11th, while Cathy Beard and Les Dunham also finished.

The going was tough in the marathon but Malcolm Statham (3h 41m) and David Wright (3h 42m) kept to the job and finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Martyn Clarke then ran another half marathon at Milton Keynes clocking 1h 29m 30s and also ran 19m 34s to finish fourth and win the first over-50 prize at the Bedgebury Park Run in Kent.

The Colchester 5km Park run saw just under 400 runners finish on a bright sunny morning.

Mark Harrod was runner-up in 17m 56s, with Danny Millward fourth in 18m 28s and David Wright ninth (19m 02s). Angus Holford and Jon Nears jogged round in 19m 03s in preparation for the Halstead Marathon.

Richard Boden ran two PBs at the Witham 5 and the Castle, clocking a superb 19m 04s.

Also in the top 20 finishers were Chris Manby (19m 09s), Tim Ballard (19m 19s), Keith Marley (19m 26s) and Simon Smith (19m 32s).

Other Harriers to finish: Dan Marks 19-36, Jamie Nelson (19m 43s), Richard Millward (20m 08s), Dan Wilkinson (20m 47s, PB), Jerry Walder (21m 33s), Jo Martin (22m 41s, first lady), Oliver Saunders (23m 47s), Sandra Fox (23m 58s), Hannah Rodgers (24m 12s), Simon Morgan (25m 49s), Rachel Richardson-Wright (30m 56s) and Fay Smalls (34m 18s).

The Great Cornard event saw Drew Olley finish fifth (19m 57s) and Ady Frost seventh (20m 06s), while Debbie Cattermole ran 26m 28s.
