HARWICH Angling Club competed in the last of six Essex Inter Club League division one matches, hosted by Maldon AS.

They went into the contest with a slim chance of winning the title.

However, it was the hosts who secured top spot overall, with 54 points.

Harwich finished as runners-up, on 51, with third place going to Does AC (44).

In the individual points league, Harwich had some great performances, with five of their team finishing in the top 13 places.

Barry Hickford was fourth with 49½ points, Paul Chambers joint-eighth with 46½, Rob Houlding 11th with 45, Paul Rossington 12th with 42 and Ged Spurgin joint-13th with 41.

Overall, this season has been one of the best performances from the club since joining the league.

And with their current squad all looking forward to next season, they will be aiming to improve, go one better and hopefully win the title.

When the whistle blew to end the match, a total weight of 91lbs 11ozs 4drs was caught, with a top weight of 10lbs 7ozs 0drs from F10 peg.

Harwich picked up 39 section points, due to everyone in the team putting fish in their nets, and finished in fourth place.

Maldon won with 51, with Chelmsford AA Red taking second place with 45.

Third place went to Does AC with 42.
