I'd swap my award: Walters
JON Walters would happily swap his player-of-the-year awards for a crack at the play-offs.
The Ipswich Town midfielder picked up two gongs at the club's annual awards ceremony last week, getting the vote from both his team-mates and the corporate boxholders and sponsors.
But he admits he would surrender both in a flash in exchange for a coveted top-six finish.
"On a personal note, it's been a great week but I'd happily swap my awards for a place in the play-offs. No question," Walters told the Gazette.
"It's a team effort and making the top six would mean everything.
"The reality is that if we win our last game we're in with a shout of making them.
"And I think any fan would have taken that if you'd offered it to them back in August."
Walters continued his excellent week by scoring Town's late leveller at Deepdale.
"I'm a bit disappointed we didn't win the game but we're still in there and this result sets things up nicely for Sunday," he said.
"Even if we'd have won, though, we'd have gone into our final game needing three points, so we're no worse off.
"The other results went for us and that was vital.
"Now it could even go down to goal difference and that makes things very exciting - it's a great advert for the Coca-Cola Championship."
