It has been so long since Carlos Edwards scored a goal, he did not know what to do after finally hitting the back of the net.

The Trinidad and Tobago winger scored the only goal of the game as Ipswich Town beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Hillsborough to ease their relegation fears.

They are now up to 19th in the Coca-Cola Championship — three points above the drop zone thanks to Edwards’ timely return to the scoresheet.

He told the Gazette: “I forgot how it felt to score a goal as it was my first for nearly three years and it has been such a long time that I forgot how to celebrate.

“It took me by surprise and I just looked at the bench and thought ‘okay, it actually went in’.

“It has been playing on my mind a lot.

“The missus is away in the Caribbean at the moment and she said if I score she is going to stay away — I hope that is not the case!”
