Dean Bowditch has rediscovered his self-belief – and wants to put it to good use by helping Ipswich Town climb the Coca-Cola Championship.

The striker – once considered one of the most highly-rated young players at the club – is ready to grab his opportunity, having emerged from the bench in Wednesday’s Carling Cup defeat by Wigan.

He played the last nine minutes and now, having had a taster, is hungry for more action – hopefully in tomorrow’s Championship clash against Crystal Palace at Portman Road.

Bowditch did not play a single first-team game last season but Town manager Jim Magilton still gave him a new one-year contract in June.

“I’m grateful for having the chance,” said the 22-year-old.

“I’ve been working so hard in training and now I want more bench action and to eventually work my way into the team.

“You need a touch of arrogance to make it in football and all the top players have it.

“I have now refound my self-belief and am confident again in my own ability.

“It’s just like I was when I first broke into the side when there was no pressure.

“I’m feeling no pressure again now.”
