Roy Keane wants this summer’s pre-season schedule to culminate with a glamorous friendly at Portman Road.

The Ipswich boss is targeting a match against high-profile opposition, either from home or abroad, to give him one last chance to watch his players before the new Championship season begins in August.

Keane is hoping to finalise plans for next season’s preparations in the next fortnight and said: “We’re looking at what worked and what didn’t last summer, before confirming our plans for this year.

“We squeezed a lot in last summer, perhaps too much, but we didn’t pick up too many injuries.

“We will look at going back to Ireland again and, all in all, I’d like six or seven games, building up to a high-calibre match at Portman Road before we kick-off in August.”
