Martin Curtis capped a tremendous year by collecting a trio of honours at Stanway Rovers' annual awards night.

Curtis, who was also included in the Gazette's Non-League Team-of-the-Year, was named as Stanway's players', manager's and supporters' player-of-the-year after a year of impressive displays in the right-back berth that helped Rovers to their most successful ever season .

Joint manager Rob Bate said: "In a year when there have been so many strong performances throughout the team, I think it is great that Martin got this recognition.

"I always think that to get the recognition of the players is the pinnacle and shows his consistency of good performances.

"They are justly - deserved. There were a number of contenders, but Speedy (Curtis) played so well."

In his previous seven years at the Hawthorns, Curtis has filled a number of roles for Stanway, with regular appearances up front or on the wing, however, a switch to full-back in October proved a revelation and he went on to make 50 starts throughout the season.

Bate added: "He played his first game at full-back at the beginning of October and then never looked back.

"It was a case of him finding his true home and it has been superb for him.

"In all my time at the club, I can't remember anyone collecting all three of the main awards together."

Meanwhile, striker Sam Newson won the top goal-scorer's award and was also named as Rovers' young player-of-the-year.
