Kem Izzet has called on Colchester United’s followers to cheer them to victory in tonight’s big Essex derby.
A bumper crowd of more than 7,000 is expected to pack the Weston Homes Community Stadium for the U’s clash with rivals Southend United.
Some Colchester supporters booed their team off at half-time during their last match against Carlisle United, which ended in a 2-1 win.
However, midfielder Izzet stressed the importance of having the fans fully behind them in games.
And the long-serving U’s midfielder has urged the home faithful to be patient, as Colchester prepare to do battle with the Shrimpers on a difficult surface.
Izzet said: “The fans can play a big part for us tonight."

Like you i will not be renewing my season ticket and will only watch games that i want to. Im fed up hearing how brilliant we have been playing in fact i can not remember one match at home where we have dominated the game this season. I do like Aidy but i do disagree with him on certain players that are kept in the team week in week out that dont deserve to be and one of those is Mr Izzet himself. However I will be there tonight cheering them on.
Just read this story on the EADT site too, both Izzet and Aidy both said the fans booed at half time! What do they expect we all travel from work and home, pay good money to be 'ENTERTAINED' and we watch 45 minutes of punt it up to no one in particular, players with no movement or energy.....so I think we have every right to let our feelings known. Just because we got the win doesn't make it all right, what we watched last season was bad enough, we just want to watch some good football, because if this continues I won't be buying a season ticket again, I will just buy the games I want to watch. We will be there tonight clapping and cheering as usual, it is up to the players & staff to play the right team, the right way and win.

He needs a winger that can go to the bye line and cut it back for him as he is running into it. While you get big punts up the middle into no mans land no one will score many goals. Gilly is wasting his time here like a lot of the other good footballers that like to play football Fox for example. Aidy wants the hard dirty type of footballer that gets stuck in but has no ball playing sense. All teams need a playmaker and we do not have one in the team. I am a Col Utd supporter but its not football being played as it shoud be.
We werent booing the team off, just Gillespie who failed to perform at all (again!)
