Chris Coyne has left Colchester United.
The Australia defender, who had been the U’s club captain, has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
He has been linked with a move back to the Australian A-League and Perth Glory.
Coyne, 30, experienced an interrupted second season at Colchester, with his international commitments for the Socceroos, coupled with injuries, hampering his involvement with Paul Lambert’s side.
His last appearance for Colchester came in their final home game of the season, the 1-0 defeat against Peterborough United.
Coyne was signed for a then club record £350,000 from Luton Town by former U’s boss Geraint Williams in January, 2008.
He made his U’s debut in their 1-1 draw at Bristol City, in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Former West Ham United youngster Coyne went on to make his Socceroos debut against Iraq in June, 2008.
He has played a big part in Australia’s qualification for next year’s World Cup Finals and will be hoping to be involved in South Africa.
Coyne made 38 league and cup appearances for Colchester, scoring once.
