John McGreal admits Colchester United’s players will have a point to prove when they host Yeovil Town at the Weston Homes Community Stadium tomorrow.

The U’s clash with the Glovers is their first home game since their dire 1-0 defeat to bottom club Barnet, nearly three weeks ago.

Colchester go into the game seven points off the League Two play-off positions, with ten games remaining.

And U’s boss McGreal wants his side to produce an eye-catching display to get the U’s fans off their feet.

McGreal said: “We want to get the crowd with us from the first minute and put in a good shift.

“We need to get them up off their feet and we need to galvanize everyone together.

“The Barnet game wasn’t good for us but previous to that, you can look back at the games against Coventry and Newport and we need to try and make the most of our home games.

“Over 20 months, we’ve got a terrific home record here and we’ve tried to make it a bit of a fortress.

“The Barnet performance was poor – we all know that and we have something to prove for our home fans but also to ourselves, because we feel that the season is not over.

“Points are precious and the more points you get in a short space of time, the quicker you push up the league.”

Colchester host a Yeovil side who lie nine points above the relegation zone, following a creditable 0-0 draw at promotion-chasing Exeter City in midweek.

The U’s have a busy few days coming up, with their game against the Glovers followed by a long midweek trip to Morecambe and then a game at Stevenage, tomorrow week.

McGreal said: “It’s a tough week coming up but the most important thing firstly is the Yeovil game.

“It was a terrific performance and a good point at Mansfield.

“We had Yeovil watched on the tape and we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“They went to Exeter and got a deserved draw but again, it’s about what we do.

“They have tons of experience and I know that Darren (Way) would have been pleased with the performance and the point.

“I’m sure they will come here and try and put in a good solid display, because they’re still craving points.”

Colchester will check on the fitness of Ryan Jackson and Brandon Comley ahead of the Yeovil clash.

Both players suffered ankle knocks in the 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town last weekend and will be assessed, ahead of this weekend’s game.
