LEWIS Richardson will be backed by former British champion Lee Purdy when he attempts to add to his collection of titles in the Netherlands, this weekend.

The Essex University boxers begins his Eindhoven Boxcup challenge today, where the England middleweight will be aiming to continue his form and add to his collection of titles.

This tournament attracts many of the finest boxers in Europe, with Holland fielding their national team.

Last year at Eindhoven, Richardson was successful winning in gold and a repeat is on the cards.

Sparring has been good and tough, with many boxers from Halstead and Harwich offering their services.

Former professional boxer Purdy has made the trip to the Netherlands with Richardson and will be giving him sound advice, in his bid to capture a second title this season.

Meanwhile, Essex University's Dan Salmon lost his England Development quarter-final to Heart of Portsmouth's Anthony Prospect in Camberley, Surrey.

The light welterweight just did not switch on for the bout and allowed himself to get beaten to the punch from the opening bell.

When Salmon got it together his punches repeatedly found their target but walking forward with his hands down took all his good work away.

It was a dismal end to what began as a really promising start for the Essex University boxer.
