WIVENHOE Tennis Club is experiencing a mixed ending to what has been a successful Stringers World Colchester and District Tennis League season.

They are struggling to get through the relatively high number of rearranged matches due to inclement weather, having had more called off this season than in the previous five years put together.

After a fantastic start to the season, Wivenhoe's men's A team have suffered from cancelled matches.

They recently had to field a team mainly comprising of players from their division three and division five teams due to injury and holidays against their main title rivals.

Wivenhoe were beaten and the result ended any title aspirations they had.

Wivenhoe's men's B team won division three, remaining unbeaten until their last match at Kirby where they lost 5-4.

They fielded a weakened team due to holiday commitments but it was an enjoyable match.

However, team captain Len Jarman described the result as a ‘wake up call' for next season in division two.

Wivenhoe Ladies sealed promotion back to division two with one match left to play after beating The Essex D 6-3 in their final match.

Wivenhoe TC's mixed A team have had a difficult season in division one and lost their latest match 8-1, to The Officers Club.

But Wivenhoe mixed B are still in contention in division four and team captain Chris Pettman is still hopeful they can finish the season well and gain promotion.

The Wivenhoe Tennis Club annual club tournament is now underway with a varied range allowing something for everyone.

The event will culminate in an end of season social/presentation event.

Wivenhoe Juniors well be represented in the Stringers World League Tournament Finals day in various categories.
