DANIEL Lisney has become the first Colchester gymnast to capture an English gold gymnastics medal.

The Colchester School of Gymnastics Club member was victorious in the English Championships, held at Loughborough University.

Competing in the under-14 competition, Lisney performed exceptionally well to win gold on the pommel horse.

It is a routine with high difficulty but he executed it with great style to score a personal best (PB) of 12.034, the highest score out of 47 gymnasts.

The English Championships of Gymnastics event hosted England’s top gymnasts.

Lisney was one of Colchester School of Gymnastics to compete, the highest number of participants in a national championships in the club's 25-year history.

The youngsters competed across three age categories - under-12 and under-14 male and senior female.

Harry White and Cohen Stanley performed extremely well in the boys' under-12 category, on the opening day of the competition for younger gymnasts.

They held their nerve amongst the best in the nation to finish in 36th+46th position respectively out of more than 60 gymnasts, showing great potential for the future.

In the women’s senior competition (16+), Colchester were represented by Harriet Clifford and Kaycee Child.

Both girls put in fantastic performances for their first English Championships.

Child secured a PB and finishing in 28th while Clifford finished 34th, despite a few mistakes.

They competed in a field of more than 50 Gymnasts, some of whom were Olympic and National GB members.

It made for an extremely tough competition but both Colchester girls performed superbly, under pressure.
