LEE Kidger shot an outstanding level-par round in links-like conditions, as Playgolf Colchester Club held their Championship qualifiers.

Kidger (six) produced a masterclass in course management to kick the rulebook out and win division one.

He shot a gross 70, nett 64 and his card saw him pencil in ten pars, four bogies and cap it off with four birdies.

Promising junior member Jack Moutell (seven) shot an amazing gross 74 (nett 67) to take the runner-up spot.

His card highlights saw him pencil in 11 pars and a pair of birdies.

Ron Gilzean (13) was third with his nett 68, pencilling in a superbly consistent 11 pars.

Matthew Clarke (17) returned a nett 70 to win division two while runner-up Lee Whitten (15) beat third-placed Andreas Fantousi (17) on countback after both carded nett 75.

Andrew Southgate (27) blew the rest of the field away in division three with his nett 63, earning a two-shot handicap cut next time out.

John MacDonald’s nett 69 saw him finish as runner-up from Bernie Keys, whose putter was on form to help him save a nett 70 to take third place.

Another cold day saw a large field take part in the Playgolf Seniors May Day Trophy.

Stephen Peeling was victorious after beating resurgent Colin Green on countback, after both recorded nett 70.

Des McCarron was third with his nett 72.
