COLCHESTER Swimming Club members impressed on their debuts in the second round of the Mini League at Rochford.

The team was packed full of experienced competitors and also those entering the gala format for the first time including Lyla Belshaw, Gabby Cornish, Eion Ledwidge and Henry Warner, who all performed brilliantly on their debuts.

They ensured all their hard work paid off for Colchester, securing valuable points.

Keara Hemsworth, Joe Tilly and Evie Scott all achieved third-place finishes in the 50 metres backstroke.

Colchester's first gold medal performance came from Kalaum Corani, in the 100m freestyle.

Molly Young swam an incredible 100m freestyle and also clinched a two-second personal best (PB) and a first place but this was too fast, earning her a speeding ticket.

Bronte Jordan and Christian Tilley both finished third in the fly, while Sadie Rowe (third), Harry Moonie (second), Keara Hemsworth (fifth) and Felix Szpakowski (second) achieved valuable points in the breaststroke.

Colchester's open relay teams took part in the 4x2x1 free relay, where competitors swim a length, get out of the pool and then in turn swim again.

Colchester's girls' team of Young, Jordan, Clegg and Jordan were victorious and the boys' team of Cheng, Tilley, Cole and Ledwidge secured a superb second in a time of one minute 52.19 seconds.

The PBs then started to tumble with all swimmers performing well in the 50m free and backstroke.

Amy Milburn (four-second PB), Henry Proud (first place), Lottie Thompson (three-second PB and speeding ticket), Seb Tilley (first place), Zoe Clegg (one-second PB) and Joe Cole (four-second PB).

Colchester's boys' fly relay team of Girolami, Chamberlain, Szpakowski, Francis, Ledwidge and Corani achieved a very good second place.

And Szpakowski, J Tilley, S Tilley and Pryke followed that up with a win in the freestyle relay.

Molly Young and Anola Jordan then achieved second places and personal bests in their respective age groups for the 50m back and 100m freestyle events.

Colchester's swimmers put in a charge towards the end with Lottie Thompson (50m fly), Charlie Pryke (50m fly) and Alfie Francis (50m fly with a 1.5s PB) all winning, along with the club's fly relay team of McCrae, Scott, Hemsworth, A Jordan, Clegg and B Jordan.

The final two individual events saw Kai Cheng swim a three-second PB for second place, while Zoe Clegg rounded the individual races off in style after winning the 50m breaststroke.

Other Colchester SC swimmers who took part were Suri McCrae, Roisin Higgins, Elliot Whitehouse, Stanley Hobbs, Hannah O’Malley, Ross Jordan, Olivia Vinter and Sam Bentley.
