KEIRON Baker netted a hat-trick on his FC CLACTON debut as the Seasiders fought back from behind before winning 4-2 against Fakenham Town.

The striker joined late last week as part of a triple signing that saw also Sam Cripps and Tom Austin move to the Rush Green Bowl.

And it was Baker who grabbed the headlines in Saturday’s Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest, pouncing twice to cancel out goals by Ashley Jarvis and Kyle Plumb.

Skipper Kevin Coyle then smashed home a penalty before Baker completed his treble to confirm a fourth straight home win for Kieron Shelley’s side.

Fakenham broke the deadlock from a penalty of their own, in the first half.

Adam Daniels lost possession and Josh Vaughan, suddenly under pressure on the edge of his penalty area, tripped Sam Garner.

Jarvis stepped forward and confidently stroked home from the spot.

Clacton soon levelled, though, through Brightlingsea Regent loanee Baker.

He charged down a clearance from keeper Joe Colman and kept his feet before slotting into an empty net.

Fakenham regained their lead before the break when a long throw by Jarvis was flicked on by Josh Youngs and turned in from close range by the unmarked Plumb.

But Clacton were soon on level terms again thanks to star man Baker, who found himself through on goal and slotted a low effort under keeper Colman.

Better was soon to follow for the Seasiders, after a foul on Jamie Beecham, by the right-hand touchline and under the nose of referee Stuart Franklin.

Skipper Coyle took the ball and powered home an unstoppable effort from the spot, to seal a precious victory.

Baker then completed his hat-trick after rounding the keeper and slotting home from a tight angle.

Elsewhere, the wintry weather led to some postponements.

Among them there the matches involving STANWAY ROVERS, WIVENHOE TOWN and BRANTHAM ATHLETIC.

Stanway and Wivenhoe had both been due to be on their travels, at Kirkley and Pakefield and Great Yarmouth Town respectively.

However, both games were called off and so too was the contest between Thetford Town and Brantham.

It was a similar story in division one.

HALSTEAD TOWN had been hoping to build on last week’s excellent victory at HOLLAND FC but their match at home to Leiston Reserves was postponed. It would have been new boss Mark McLean’s first game at Rosemary Lane.

Similarly, Holland were hoping to bounce back from last week’s defeat but their game at Diss was also off.

Two key matches did go ahead and one of them involved leaders COGGESHALL TOWN, who drew 0-0 at March Town United. BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES won 3-1 at home to Debenham LC.
