A LARGE crowd of members and guests gathered for Playgolf Colchester's Captain’s Drive-In.

This year’s club captain, Michael Rolfe, welcomed everybody in the Kitchen Club for coffee and bacon rolls before the captains gathered for the initiation ceremony.

Playgolf Colchester's 2017 club captains Rolfe, Michael Johnson (Seniors), Maureen Dale (Ladies) and Jonathan Tate (Juniors) nervously gathered for photos before seeing in their year’s tenures in with the usual ceremonious drives from the first tee.

The main competition was a stableford, with a mix of the scores counting to make the team total.

The good course conditions and warmer weather saw some superb scores recorded.

The seniors showed the rest how it’s done with Trevor Cocksedge, Will Elder and Jeff Coles winning with a massive 87 points.

Dave Needham’s team were unlucky to finish second, three points behind.

The guest team of Gary Upson and brothers Rory and Ollie Wilson were third, after returning 82 points.

Carol Farrance won the guess the combined distance prize, with half of the proceeds going to the captain's chosen charity.

Jeremy Dalton was back to his best after winning division one of the Playgolf Seniors Stableford, with 43 points.

David Needham was second with 37 points while Jeff Coles was third on countback with 36 points leaving Stephen Peeling and Alan Barrett just out of the top three.

Mick Durrell returned to winning ways, topping a three-way countback tie on 34 points.

Colin Green was runner-up, ahead of vice-captain Robert Few who was third.

Michael Johnson was delighted with his first start as senior captain.
