WIVENHOE TOWN have confirmed the departure of player-assistant manager Ray Turner.

The striker rejoined the club in the summer of 2015 and went on to score 30 goals, as the Dragons won last season's Thurlow Nunn League first division title.

In total he played 132 times for Wivenhoe, scoring 58 goals.

Ian Smith has now taken over as assistant manager, working alongside first-team boss Mo Osman.

Smith is an FA qualified coach who has been a member of the club's coaching staff for four seasons.

Although he has predominately been a goalkeeping coach, he has long contributed to the club's general coaching and match preparation.

Wivenhoe are 14th in the premier division and, having lost 2-1 at home to Great Yarmouth on Saturday, they will hope to return to winning ways at Newmarket Town on Saturday.

They have not tasted victory in their last ten league and cup matches, since pipping Swaffham 1-0 on October 1.

Meanwhile, STANWAY ROVERS are back in Thurlow Nunn League action tonight, at home to Haverhill Rovers.

Angelo Harrop's side are second in the table, five points clear of third-placed Newmarket but 13 behind runaway leaders Mildenhall Town.

Both of those side also have a game in hand.

Stanway won 2-0 at Hadleigh United on Saturday, with new signing Tanner Call getting them off to a dream start, following by a second goal from Craig Hughes.
