TOM Oliver's season is over after he crashed out of the latest Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship round at Donington Park.

The Colchester racer suffered a broken hand and foot during second qualifying, which will effectively rule him out of the rest of the season.

Oliver will now miss the rest of the season after suffering the setback competing for SGR Racing, in the 11th round of the Championship.

Oliver said: “I can’t even begin to explain how gutted I am.

"This is the only crash we’ve had all season and for me to end up injured is just a disaster.

"I was really looking forward to Donington and Brands Hatch as we've been improving at each round and I wanted a couple of solid results to consolidate my season.

"I’ve really enjoyed riding for SGR Racing and we are planning on continuing into 2017.

"Thanks to all our supporters and sponsors, we couldn’t do it without you.”

The weekend had initially started well for Oliver, who gradually picked up the pace as the qualifying sessions progressed.

But just four laps into second qualifying and lying in fourth place, Oliver came through Goddards and high sided.

His team witnessed the crash and expected him to walk away from it but sadly that was not the case.

Oliver was taken to the medical centre for treatment and then on to a local hospital, where the extent of the damage was established.

And three broken metatarsals in his foot and a broken hand mean this is the end of the 2016 season for Oliver and SGR Racing.

SGR Racing team owner Stephen Kinghorn said: “Well that wasn’t the plan of Donington but the main thing is Tom is largely OK and he will bounce back from this.

"He had been riding really well and was putting in consistent times as usual when the crash happened out of nowhere.

"We will have to miss Brands Hatch due to Tom’s injury but we will be back next year with Tom to see what we can achieve.

"I’m thrilled with how this season has gone.

"Tom has ridden like a pro, we’ve had great support from our sponsors and friends, plus immense coverage from the BSB radio and comms team.

"Thanks to Tim Keeton from Impact Images Photography for making us all look good during the season!

"And thanks to everyone who has helped us along the way.

"I can’t wait for 2017, it is going to be a good one.”
