Colchester United will assess the fitness of attacker Sammie Szmodics after he limped out of their 1-1 draw at Barnet yesterday.

The U's forward, who had scored three goals in as many games prior to the game at The Hive, was forced off just after the half hour mark of the League Two clash and is now a doubt for the club's home clash with Accrington Stanley, on Saturday.

Szmodics was replaced by Glen Kamara before the break, as the visitors had to settle after Curtis Weston's late equaliser for Barnet cancelled out Tarique Fosu's early opener for Colchester.

Colchester head coach John McGreal said: “Sammie suffered a heavy dead leg – he tried to run it off but he then signalled to the bench after about 30 minutes that he couldn’t carry on, so we had to make the change.

“That stopped our impetus really because we were well on top and were looking in threat.

“After that, everything then was in front of them and we didn’t really get beyond them as such.

“We didn’t deal with it higher up the pitch and we had to deal with a lot coming at us."
