HARWICH Boxing Club held their AGM and presentation night at their base in Main Road, Dovercourt.

An appreciative audience heard of the boxers' exploits over the last season, in this the club’s 19th year, since being formed in April 1997.

The premier award, the President's Cup, is awarded to the boxer who has amassed the best results over the year-long season and this year’s prize went to 18-year-old light heavyweight Patrick Allen Cripps.

Allen Cripps had a busy season, culminating in six wins from 11, which included contests in Ireland and Holland.

His excellent season also saw him awarded the Tom Parsons Memorial Cup for best senior boxer.

The USC Shield club champion runner-up spot, dipping out by a solitary point, went to 16-year-old Frazer Mann, whose excellent season saw him reach the national junior ABA semi-finals.

Frazer's outstanding season also saw him rewarded with the KMS Cup, for best junior boxer, and the recently introduced boxers' boxer award.

The Smiler Perkins Trophy, sponsored by the Ipswich ex-boxers' association for best newcomer, went to 10-year-old Cameron Walker.

Walker took part in six skills bouts since December and now looks forward to his debut competitive bout next season.

The Harwich International Port Cup for best senior prospect went to 20-year-old welterweight Paul Gordon, who scored a creditable four wins from six rollercoaster bouts and is now poised to take part in the national novice championships in September.

The only female in the competitive squad, Charlotte Kolosova, took the Rugby Club Shield, awarded to the best club member.

Sixteen-year-old Alfie Lucas’ five wins from eight saw him take the rotary club shield for best youth boxer.

The Harwich Shoecraft Cup for best schoolboy boxer went to ever-improving 14-year-old Stevie Martin, who lifted the eastern counties schoolboy title this season.

Head coach Martin Webb said: "It's been the longest competitive season in the club's history, starting in September and ending in early July.

"However, the experience gained has been priceless and will stand us in good stead for next season's campaign.

"We’ve improved our win rate percentage and increased the amount of contests taken part in, compared against the previous year, which shows we're heading in the right direction.

"The coaching team are very proud of our boxers' achievements this last 12 months and every one of them has the potential to go onto greater successes next season."

The club are always on the lookout for new members.
