COLCHESTER'S Tom Oliver experienced a difficult time at the sixth round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class at Snetterton.

Oliver, who was competing for SGR Racing, finished in 17th place in Norfolk, the first time they have finished outside of the points this season.

Oliver said: “I’ve really been struggling with arm pump this season and this weekend at Snetterton it really had a negative impact.

"I’m going to have the arm pump operation soon as I need to be able to race and not worry about it.

"On the plus side the bike and team are working well and I enjoy racing at Thruxton so I’m looking to that now.”

During wet free practice and the wet second qualifying session, Oliver aboard his Yamaha, was running at the front and was fastest on track.

However, first dry qualifying was a different story as his arm pump issue re-occurred and he qualified in 15th place based on the time set in that session.

The hard-working Morpeth-based team were hoping for a wet race but that was not to be.

Oliver got away well making up five places from the off but his ongoing battle with arm pump continued, seeing him drop down the order to an uncharacteristic 17th place.

Arm pump is a common issue in racing it occurs when the forearm muscles enlarge due to exercise but are restricted by the fascia surrounding them, leaving riders with no feeling, or strength to grip.

SGR Racing team owner Stephen Kinghorn said: “It was unfortunate that Tom suffered so badly with arm pump as he was flying during both wet sessions and really showed his potential.

"I’m pleased he is having the operation to sort this out as I’m confident it will see him progress to the front of the field as I know what a talented rider he is.

"Thanks to everyone for their continued support and to BSB Radio for some amazing coverage this weekend.

"As a team we’d like to wish Caleb Smith a speedy recovery following his crash - get well soon.”

The seventh round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class will take place at Thruxton on 22nd – 24th July.
