LUKE Prosser has set his sights on achieving a third successive League Two promotion after signing for Colchester United.

The experienced centre-back has signed a two-year deal with the U’s, after leaving their Essex rivals Southend United at the end of last season.

Prosser, who started his career in the Spurs academy, has plenty of experience of the division, having helped both Southend United and Northampton Town win promotion to League One in the last two seasons.

Now the 28-year-old is hoping to make it a hat-trick with the U’s, after agreeing to move to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Prosser told the Daily Gazette: “I’ve spent most of my career in League Two so far, so it’s a division that I know quite well.

“I was on loan at Northampton last season and it was fantastic to be a part of their success - the boys were really flying.

“It was great to be a part of something like that and hopefully I can experience it again with Colchester.

“League Two isn’t an easy league to get out of but there’s quality within our squad.

“I’m looking forward to it and raring to go.

“Colchester are a massive club and shouldn’t be where they are in League Two.

“They’ve got so much going for them and the facilities with the stadium and the training ground sell themselves.

“It’s a bit of a rebuilding process after last season but it’s great to be a part of it and it’s a fresh start for everyone.”

Prosser made more than 150 league and cup appearances for Southend, during his six-year stint at Roots Hall.

But he found his opportunities limited at the Essex club last season and spent the final three-and-a-half months of the season on loan at Northampton, helping them win promotion as champions.

Prosser had earlier in his career spent five years at Port Vale where he clocked up 36 league and cup appearances, after joining them following his release from Tottenham Hotspur.

“Hopefully, I can bring a bit of experience to the back four,” added Prosser.

“Towards the end of my time at Southend, I didn’t get as many games as I would have liked and when you get to the age I am, you just want to play regular football.

“I’m dying to get back out there for Colchester and can’t wait for pre-season to start next week.”
