COLCHESTER Harriers' Graig Anya-Joseph produced an outstanding debut performance at the Essex Athletic Track and Field Championships at Melbourne Park.

The 12-year-old claimed a hat-trick of gold medals and new club records at the event and also bagged three Championship Best performances, in the under-13 boys' event.

His excellent results in the 100 metres, 200m and discus rank him in the top five competitors in each event for his age.

Anya-Joseph clocked 12.1 seconds in the 100m, knocking half a second off the previous record.

The Stanway School pupil also produced an outstanding performance in his preferred distance, the 200m.

He clocked an impressive time of 25.2s, shaving off 0.7 seconds.

Anya-Joseph saved his best for last, throwing a massively impressive 33.97 metres in the discus to better the best performance by more than seven metres. It was a distance that would have earned him silver in the under-15 boys' competition.
