HOLLAND Shore Boxing Club’s Oliver Dragisic produced a classy performance which earned him the boxer-of-the-night award when outpointing Berry Boys’ national schoolboy finalist Shay Norman on their own show in Basildon.

Norman started well as the first round began, walking on to Dragisic with good left hands followed by loose combination punches.

Good footwork also helped the Berry Boys boxer control the ring centre early in the round.

Dragisic, though, would not be denied and was now beginning to find his distance as heavy head shots started to find their mark.

Unloading with combination punches, both boys tried to control the ring but now the heavy-handed Dragisic was backing the classy Norman up.

The second followed in the same manner, as both boys unloaded with heavy combinations but it was the tough Dragisic who was controlling the action with well-placed body shots also finding their mark.

With maybe one round each going into the last, it was Dragisic’s heart and work rate that saw Norman trying to survive as a steady stream of heavy combinations were still finding their mark, with the St Osyth-based boxer taking a unanimous points decision. Arnie Dawson lost out on a split decision when up against Vange and Pitsea’s Alby Hill.

The first round was close, with the action swaying from one to the other of the two classy little lads.

Dawson, though, was beginning to dominate more in the second as he controlled the action, although Hill was always trying.

The third round was all Dawson, as the Vange and Pitsea boy began to tire.

Double left-hand leads and heavy right hands continually found their mark, with Hill looking to survive, although holding on to gain a split decision.

Joss Bennett was also in action in a skills contest and totally dominated Broad Street’s Callum Davidson over all three rounds.

Looking more confident with every contest, Bennett’s long, loose punches caused Davidson continuous problems as sharp, heavy combinations overwhelmed the Broad Street boy.
