Kane Vincent-Young is set to make his injury comeback when Colchester United take on Canvey Island in the Essex Senior Cup tonight.

The talented full-back has been sidelined since mid-September with an Achilles injury but is set to feature in the game, as he bids for a first-team recall.

George Elokobi has also been named in the squad for the game against the Gulls.

And Sammie Szmodics, Tom Lapslie and Jack Curtis should also all feature in the fourth-round tie, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester’s joint interim first-team manager John McGreal said: “We’re looking to go with an experienced team, with players needing game time.

“But it will still be a young team, even though some of those players are experienced."

McGreal expects Ryman Premier League outfit Canvey to provide a tough challenge for Colchester.

“It’ll be a big test for our boys,” he added.

“I’m sure Canvey Island will be looking forward to coming to our stadium and playing under the lights.

“We’ll be looking for a good start like the one we got against Hornchurch, in the last round.

“But we’re expecting a totally different test against Canvey - they play a couple of divisions higher than Hornchurch.”

Meanwhile, Canvey Island manager Danny Heale has happy memories of playing against the U’s, in the county competition.

Heale was part of the Canvey team that beat Colchester in the 2012 final, at Thurrock.

“We had a good side back then and got a great result against a very strong Colchester team (featuring the likes of John-Joe O’Toole and Mark Cousins),” said Heale.

“They played some first-team players and every one of our players put in a nine out of ten performance that night.

“My Dad had won it so to follow in his footsteps and win it was great for me and the family.

“So we obviously want to win this match and then do our best to win the competition.”
