MATT Povey has pocketed the Clacton Eight Ball Pool Singles League title.

Reigning champion Phil Ledgerton was expected to make it three successes in a row.

However, two-time runner-up Povey had other ideas and shot out of the traps at the beginning of the season, beating Tom Matthews 9-1 and Billy Kyle 6-4.

It enabled him to take his seat at the top of the leaderboard and that’s where he stayed for the rest of the season.

The only person to upset him along the way was Steve Forrest, in a tense, mid-season clash.

The race was on for second place and it came down to the final match between Ledgerton and Tim Flaherty.

Ledgerton suffered a rare bruising following an 8-2 thrashing, which knocked him down from second to third.

Flaherty took second spot, while Dave Finch, promoted from division one, also had a great season and finished fourth.

The Clacton Singles League is an annual pool competition open to all players of any ability.

It is played in a league format but players play as individuals rather than teams.

The next season starts in March and further details can be found at www.clactonsinglesleague.league republic.com
