Colchester United will aim to put an end to their wretched recent record in the Football League Trophy tonight.
The U’s head into their first-round tie at League Two side Northampton Town having not tasted victory in the competition for nearly seven years.
Colchester’s last win in the tournament came under former boss Paul Lambert back in November, 2008.
A 17th-minute goal from loanee Sam Williams gave the U’s a 1-0 triumph at Bournemouth in a third-round tie, at Dean Court.
Since then, Colchester have fallen at the first hurdle of the competition in each of the last six seasons.
