Burnham on Crouch’s ladies’ section battled it out for the The Dora Peaty Rose Bowl.

Thirty-two ladies took part in the bogey competition.

There was some excellent scoring both at the weekend and on Thursday.

In first place was Debs Wolton with an amazing +7.

In second place was Laura Whitman with +5, Helen Ford was third with +4 and Claire Brown with a Par.

The first three all received handicap reductions.

On Tuesday, captain Keith Lewis and course manager Rob Coughlan, partnered with the secretary and greenkeeper from Woodford, won the Essex Golf Club Captains’ Greenkeepers’ Day at Romford Golf Club with a score of 91 points (best two scores count) Coughlan toughed it out with cracked ribs, reading the captain’s putts and generously donating the winnings (£75) to the Captain’s Charity – Parkinsons UK.

The Veterans played two matches this week.

On Monday, they hosted Thorpe Hall and a close match ended with a 5-3 for Burnham.

On Friday, they made the short trip to Forrester Park where there was an even closer match with the home side edging it 4½-3½.
