THE Playgolf Colchester Texas scramble competition saw a large turnout in good weather.

The team handicap was worked out by combining each player’s total playing handicap and dividing the total by ten.

Each team of three needed to use a minimum of five drives each and then all play from the same spot until the ball is holed out.

Brothers Cristos and Elias Fantousi and Calum McKenzie teamed up well to win the event.

The top trio played off a handicap of 4.1 and outscored the rest of the field by nearly two shots, carding a great six under par, gross 64 for nett 59.9.

Jake Millard, Sam Southernwood and John MacDonald (4.2) shot a gross 66, for nett 61.8, to take the runner-up spot.

The third-placed team of Mick Farr, Trevor Hollingsworth and Alex Crawford (4.1) missed out on a countback decision for second place by a narrow .1 handicap difference, after also carding gross 66, for nett 61.9.

John Edgell (21) won division one of the July senior medal with a nett 66. Steve Loran (12) was second with a nett 67, a shot ahead of Geoffrey Backhouse on nett 68.

Tony Millington (25) won division two with a nett 71 ahead of Colin Green (26) on nett 73.

David Jones (28) completed the top three by taking a countback decision ahead of Peter Evans (25), after both carded nett 74.

Some very respectable stableford scores were recorded in the prestigious Ladies’ Rose Bowl and the competition was very tightly contested.

Carol Farrance won the competition with 39 points.

Her highlights came with three pars, five nett pars and five nett birdies to take a narrow, but well-deserved, victory.

Shirley Birkin was a point back on 38 to take second place from Linda Marshall, who in turn, was a further point back in third on 37.

Nicky Withycombe took a countback decision for fourth place from Ann Longman, Judith Peeling and Gina Macmillan after they all carded 35.
