Things just keep getting better and better for swimming ace Laura Stephens.

The Colchester Swimming Club member has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the World Junior Championships, in Singapore.

Stephens will compete at the event, which is for the world’s best young swimmers under the age of 18, in August.

It is the latest in a long line of achievements for the talented butterfly swimmer, who excelled at the recent British Championships staged at the London Aquatics Centre.

The 15-year-old, who now swims for Plymouth Leander, was last week selected for Team GB to swim at the inaugural Baku European Games.

The international event will be held in Azerbaijan in June and will feature more than 6,000 athletes aged between 14 and 18, competing in 20 sports.

Stephens, from Wix, has also been selected to swim for England at next month’s Standard Energy International Meet in Lignano, Italy.

The team will compete against swimmers from four other nations at the event, which has been switched from Moscow.

Stephens won her place on the national team after impressing selectors at a series of England Talent camps.

It will be Laura’s second outing for the team - she competed for England in the Portugal Open last year.

England Programmes Team Leader Grant Robbins said: “This is the final part of the ET Programme for the 2014-2015 season and will provide a great opportunity to compete while still in the national competition window.

“This offshore competition will give England Programme athletes the experience of competing abroad in a high standard competition which can only be beneficial to their continual future development.”

Colchester SC is named as Stephens’ second club with the Amateur Swimming Association.

The teenager trains with them during school holidays and is due to link up with them during next month’s half-term break.

Laura is looking for sponsorship to help her to continue her rapid progress in the sport.
