Wright's cool finish two minutes after the break gave the U's a narrow victory at the Glass World Stadium, in their latest pre-season friendly.
Colchester fielded a strong side against Histon, with the likes of Craig Eastmond and Brian Wilson using the match to get vital match practice under their belts, following recent injuries.
Sanchez Watt, Freddie Sears and Jabo Ibehre were also among those who featured, as the U's continue their preparations for the new League One campaign.
Colchester's next friendly is at Ryman League division one north side Maldon and Tiptree on Saturday.
