Hanvey takes the honours

7:01am Thursday 3rd July 2008

This year's Lexden Wood Ryder Cup was a very tight affair with the captain's team coming out on top after a play-off.

The game had ebbed and flowed all day with the vice captain's team seeming to be heading for victory only to have the last three games snatched away from him.

With the match drawn captain Kyle Hanvey and vice captain Gerry Wilkins took to the putting green for a very friendly play-off which was eventually won on the tenth extra hole.

An added bonus on the day was Tom Earl scoring his first hole-in-one on the 135-yard third hole and then still managing to win his match, before heading back to the clubhouse.

Glorious sunny, but windy, weather encouraged a large field to take part in the Lexden Wood Seniors Midsummer Cup last Thursday.

The windy conditions made the going quite difficult but Rose Cole mastered the conditions to shoot a very creditable level par nett 70, followed closely by Bruce Poole and Dave Needham on nett 72, with the latter losing out on countback.
