Mike and Parmer Ellis secured a fine win in the Turner Cup at Colchester Golf Club.

Racking up a stableford score of 41 points in this family foursome competition, they outpaced their nearest rivals by two points.

In second place were Joe and Chris Clarke on 39 points, followed closely on 38 points by David and Jill Slater.

Gordon and Anne Rodgers were in fourth on 37 points, beating Trevor and Stuart Cock after a countback.

Running before the Turner Cup was a medal competition which Keith Newnham, playing off seven, won with an exceptional score of gross par, giving him a nett score of 63.

No-one got near him, with the next best scores at nett 67, shared by Jonny Hassett (6), Roger Wright (4) and Lewis Barber (12).

In division two, John Williams (13), with a nett 68, was the winner, with David Brown (19) and Stephen Holland (20) taking second and third after a countback, with nett 69s.

The mid-week stableford saw Joe Clarke (12) underline his form of late to return an incredible card of 47 points with a gross of 71 - ten points ahead of his nearest rival.

In the veterans' stableford, John Helliwell (23) returned a 41 to take first place from Chris Pownall (21), who had a 40.

The ladies played their June medal and it was Fiona Prentice, from the Bronze B Division, who carded a nett 69 from her 27 handicap and took the Medal Spoon for the best nett round of the day.

In the divisions, Elaine Gilbert (20) headed the Silver, returning a nett 72, with the second and third places being decided after a countback, the second going to Parma Ellis (15) and Jane Reed (12) third.

Bronze A was won by Anne Rodgers (26) on countback from Alison Cordran (25) and Sarah Turner (21), while Prentice took the Bronze B from Sara Cock (31) and Elizabeth Bainbridge (30) both on nett 72s.

The ladies Harris Bowl team, captained by Ann Spurr, are having mixed success.

They won their match 4-1 against group leaders Five Lakes, but lost their away match 3-2 at Notley's Lords Golf Club.

With three matches still to play, Colchester still have the chance to qualify for the knockout stages.

The men's Jubilee Cup team are, despite their loss against bottom-placed Forrester Park, in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages.

Their 5-3 defeat at Forrester Park was a very close fought match.

For the first time this year the singles lost 4-1, with Rodger Moore winning his match on the 18th, and Glen Sibbons halving his.

Of the three pairs matches, Colin Baker and Mick Lyons had a solid win and Adrian Livesley and Humphrey French completed their victory on the 18th.

Alan Tindall the team captain said after the match that despite this obvious setback that as holders they were determined to qualify for the later stages of this competition.

A group of golfers from the club travelled to Ely Golf Club to play in popular Ely Open and had considerable success.

Overall winners were Adam Harper and Tom Rothery with a total of 74 points.

Steve Wynne and Gary Driver got second place in the morning round on countback from fellow Colchester golfers Tony Rand and John Dornan.
