Elated Stanway Rovers boss Steve Pitt hailed his players as a “credit to their club” after lifting the Ridgeons League Cup.

Michael Cheek’s first-half opener was followed by Tom Jeal’s own goal early in the second half as Rovers beat Norwich United 2-1, in this afternoon's final at Diss Town.

However, the balance of play was far more comfortable than the score suggests and Pitt said: “The result flattered Norwich.

“Apart from our end product, everything was first class and our performance could have graced a higher level.

“The players were a credit to themselves and their club and it was the culmination of a lot of hard work, over the course of the season."

Stanway’s victory was their second League Cup triumph in four years, after pipping Leiston on penalties in 2009.
