Tiptree United endured a heavy defeat by Leiston in the Ridgeons League premier division, but a lot of the club’s attention has been absorbed by matters off the pitch this weekend.

Having battled to a 3-3 draw at Leiston less than two weeks ago with a performance that manager Colin Wallington described as one of the best he had seen from a Jam-makers team, the Suffolk side plundered a 5-1 victory at Chapel Road.

Lee Underwood was on target in the 31st minute for Tiptree, but by that time they were already 2-0 down and went on to concede three more to their impressive visitors However, attention swiftly turned to matters off the pitch as the Jam-makers announced that they are looking to move from the Ridgeons League into the Essex Senior League next year.

An intention to switch has already been forwarded to both leagues, but it will be the Football Association that has the final say and they will decide in May.

In a statement, issued by club secretary John Wisbey, the reason behind the move was given as because of the placement of the club in the event of a promotion.

Clubs from this part of the country have recently been put into the Southern League rather than the Ryman League, which involves a lot more travelling for teams from this area and higher costs resulting from that.
