BRANTHAM Athletic chairman Peter Crowhurst wants his side to use their achievements as a springboard for next season.

The Imps are fifth in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division and also through to the League Cup final, where they face Thetford Town on May 7.

Crowhurst says that whatever happens, it has been an outstanding campaign and hopes it acts as the catalyst for a promotion push in 2018/19.

“We have aspirations of taking the club into the Bostik League," he said.

“And to do that, we have to use the achievements of this season as a springboard, to have a really big push for promotion next year.

“We’re trying to build the club and the only way we’re going to do that is by having a stronger support base, a bit like (league leaders) Felixstowe.

“I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people are becoming slightly disillusioned with professional football and turning to non-league.

“We have an opportunity to capture those people by attracting them to Brantham.

“They might not be watching a comparative level of football to what they’re used to but they’ll see some great games and players giving their absolute all.

“We’ve come a long way but there’s still more to achieve and I believe the future looks very bright."

Brantham had a double-header of fixtures over the Easter weekend.

First, they drew 2-2 at Thetford Town - their League Cup opponents - on Saturday.

Ben Newson scored twice in the first half, starting with a well-taken half-volley, to put them firmly in control at the break.

However, Thetford pulled one back and then salvaged an equaliser in stoppage time.

Brantham then won 3-1 at home to neighbours Stanway Rovers on Bank Holiday Monday, thanks to goals from Jack Sibbons, Newson and Jack Smith.

Next up they host Ely City tomorrow and it is the first of five straight home fixtures at the Leisure Centre.

Aside from their quest to finish in the top five, Brantham also have an eye on the League Cup final, to be played at Diss Town's Brewers Green Lane ground on Monday, May 7.

“Reaching a cup final is a magnificent achievement," added Crowhurst, who was also keen to thank his hard-working Imps committee.

“It’s something to really look forward to and we want to get the whole village and area behind us, to cement what’s already been a great season.

"We want to grow our support base and hope to take as many people along to the final as possible.

“We want to make it a real family day and hopefully things will snowball in terms of our support next season.

"Hopefully we’ll carry people along with us.”
