BILLY Hunt was the two-goal hero as BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT ran out 2-0 winners at home to Lowestoft Town today.

The sides met in a Bostik League premier division contest at the Taydal Stadium and it was the R's who gleaned maximum points thanks to goals in each half from top-scorer Hunt.

His first came in the 12th minute and the second, from the penalty spot, followed in the 90th.

It was an important victory for Tom Rothery’s men, who have three more home games coming up in quick succession - starting with Thursday’s visit of title-contenders Billericay Town.

Meanwhile, in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division, BRANTHAM ATHLETIC defeated neighbours STANWAY ROVERS 3-1.

Jack Sibbons, Ben Newson and Jack Smith scored the Imps goals.

Today's Thurlow Nunn League derby between WIVENHOE TOWN and FC CLACTON was postponed, following an 8.30am inspection.

The deluge of overnight rain, which continued into the morning, left the pitch badly waterlogged.

Also off was the premier division match between COGGESHALL TOWN and Haverhill Borough and the first division fixtures between HOLLAND FC and Whitton United, Norwich United Reserves and LITTLE OAKLEY and Cornard United and HALSTEAD TOWN.

Braintree Town Reserves against Team Bury was called off on Sunday.

Back in the Bostik League, the division north derby between MALDON AND TIPTREE and WITHAM TOWN was washed out, as was the match between Bowers and Pitsea and HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS.

The Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division derby between Harwich and Parkeston and Oakley's reserves was also postponed, due to the soggy state of the Royal Oak pitch.
