STANWAY ROVERS romped to an amazing 9-0 victory in Friday’s derby at WIVENHOE TOWN.

The sides met in a Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest at the GMP Plant Hire Stadium.

Stanway took the spoils courtesy of a late goal when the sides met in a hard-fought affair at The Hawthorns on September 29.

Another close contest was anticipated this time around but, instead, it turned out to be a comfortable victory for Kem Izzet’s side.

Romario Dunne’s long-range effort got the ball rolling before Joe Heron fired in via the woodwork and Kieron Ayling headed home a corner to make it 3-0.

Former Wivenhoe man Joe McCracken nodded in from close range to extend the lead after the break.

Moris Gelashvili also scored with a header and Jordan Blackwell applied the finishing touch to a slick move to make it 6-0.

Dunne then scored again and Ben Lampon headed in a corner to add to the Dragons’ misery.

Dunne’s tap-in completed his hat-trick and an emphatic victory for Stanway – their fourth straight win, during which time they have plundered 19 goals.

They have also won seven of their last nine league matches and Friday’s success moved them up to fifth, prior to Saturday’s fixtures.

In stark contrast, Wivenhoe have shipped 16 goals in three games and they dropped to the bottom of the table as previous basement boys Fakenham Town won 1-0 at Gorleston.

Friday’s derby was watched by a crowd of 179.

Elsewhere on Friday night, BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES won 1-0 at Cornard United in the first division, thanks to a goal from Alfie Cleal.
