ANGELO Harrop has stepped down as Stanway Rovers manager.

The ex-Colchester United youth-teamer resigned earlier tonight after a meeting with chairman Roy Brett.

He says he has taken the club as far as he can and joint-assistant bosses Alex Drennan and Danny Slatter have also quit their roles at The Hawthorns.

Harrop took over in 2014 with Rovers languishing 17th in the Thurlow Nunn League.

He then led them to mid-table safety before inspiring a third-place finish last season, in addition to enjoying a long and exciting FA Vase run.

Stanway are looking well-placed for another crack at the premier division title this season as they are second – hot on the heels of leaders Mildenhall Town – and also through to the quarter-finals of the League Challenge Cup.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Stanway Rovers,” said Harrop.

“I have tonight resigned as manager after three successful seasons at the club.”

Drennan added: “The players – many of whom have been with us for two and a half years - have been fantastic and I can’t thank them enough.”

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Angelo for his efforts through a successful period,” said a Stanway statement.

“The club will make a further statement on the vacant managerial position in the next 24 hours.”
