FC CLACTON can climb to eighth in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division if they win tomorrow’s home match against Hadleigh United.

They are currently ninth but just a point behind Long Melford, who do not play until Saturday.

The Seasiders are well on track for their highest-ever finish as FC Clacton, having previously managed a best-placing of 15th.

And from a club perspective, this could be their highest finish since Clacton Town finished eighth in 2004-05.

Clacton had been due to visit Stanway Rovers on Monday but the game was called off, due to a waterlogged pitch caused by Storm Katie.

Prior to that they lost 3-0 at Mildenhall on Saturday.

“I wasn’t too disappointed with our performance and the reality is that they’re a better side than us,” said boss David Coyle.

“Mildenhall are fifth in the table for a reason and a team made up of men, rather than boys.

“They’re all big and strong and many of them have got experience of playing at a higher level.

“That said, we competed with them and weren’t outplayed.

“It just wasn’t to be on the day but I still feel we can take points off one of the top sides and will try again when we play Stanway, Kirkley and Norwich United.”
