STANWAY ROVERS boss Angelo Harrop described his side’s success at Felixstowe & Walton as one of the biggest wins of his time at The Hawthorns.

Rovers closed the gap on Thurlow Nunn League leaders Norwich United following a tense 1-0 victory on Tuesday night.

They are now just four points behind the premier division pace-setters, who were not in action and have two games in hand.

“It was right up there with my biggest wins as Stanway manager,” said a euphoric Harrop.

“The boys played very well against a strong Felixstowe team.

“It was a great game to watch between two very decent teams and the standard was like that of a Ryman League match.

“I was so chuffed and it was a massive three points for us.

“Now roll on Friday, when we go to Brantham.”

Stanway’s fixture carried huge significance and promised to be a tough one, as their hosts were not far behind in fourth place.

However, they claimed the spoils thanks to a goal early in the second half from TJ Amass.

Elsewhere, FC CLACTON got back to winning ways following a 3-0 success at Haverhill Rovers.

Jack Clampin gave them the lead midway through the first half.

Adam Daniels made it two just after the hour-mark and skipper Aaron Condon put the cherry on the cake on 88 minutes.

It was a success that steered them up to an impressive tenth place in the premier division table.

However, boss David Coyle admitted his side missed a stack of other chances – opportunities that need to be taken in tighter games against stronger opponents.

“I don’t think we played quite as well as last week (when Haverhill won 2-0 at the Bowl), in terms of our passing football,” said the Seasiders manager.

“But on chances created, it was every bit as one-sided and we missed an absolute hat-full.

“We could have scored double figures, quite comfortably, and that’s being conservative.”

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were at home to Mildenhall Town and lost 2-1.

Sean Gunn gave them an early lead but the visitors levelled in the second half before grabbing their winner.

In division one, HALSTEAD TOWN continued their promotion push with a 3-0 victory at Team Bury.

All the goals came in the first half.

Sam Cripps netted twice and an own goal gave them a comfortable lead at the break.

WIVENHOE TOWN bowed out of the League Challenge Cup after losing 5-0 in their quarter-final at Kirkley & Pakefield.
