WIVENHOE TOWN assistant boss Ray Turner insists the buoyant Dragons are focusing only on a top-three promotion spot - and not even contemplating the title.

Mo Osman’s side are still unbeaten, having won 17 of their 18 Thurlow Nunn League matches.

They are blazing a trail at the top of division one and have an enormous 14-point lead over second-placed Ely City.

The Dragons also have a game in hand on their nearest rivals.

However, 21-goal top-scorer Turner says that for now his club are only interested in securing the top-three berth that will see them elevated back to the premier division.

“Right now, anything more than promotion would be a bonus,” said the former Stanway Rovers, FC Clacton, Halstead Town and Brantham Athletic stalwart.

“People will think I’m lying or joking but, genuinely, we’re only focusing on a top-three finish.

“That was our goal at the start of the season and that’s our only goal now.

“I reckon we need something like 70 to 75 points.

“We’re on 52 already, so, at our current rate, we could hit that target by the end of February.

“That’s all we’re concentrating on and only then, when we’ve got a top-three spot in the bag, will we set our sights on the title.

“The unbeaten record is in the back of our minds.

“I can’t deny that and we want to keep it going as long as possible, but the most important thing is getting another six or seven wins that will give us the points tally we believe we need.

“If you get too far ahead of yourself, you’re liable to trip up.

“Mo knows that and he’s so good at keep people’s feet on the ground.

“He keeps everything in perspective and doesn’t let anyone get carried away.”

Wivenhoe, who have plundered six goals in each of their last two games, visit Team Bury tomorrow.

The Dragons are well-supported on the road and Turner hopes he and his team-mates can deliver another success in Suffolk.

“It’s great for the fans,” he said.

“They’re enjoying it so much.

“They’re an exceptional bunch and the support they give us is brilliant.

“To see them cheering us on and travelling to away games gives us all such a massive lift.”
