HEYBRIDGE Swifts have boosted their squad with a double signing.

Swifts boss Jody Brown has brought back striker Jamie Guy to Scraley Road from Ryman Premier outfit Brentwood Town.

He last played for the club in January 2014 and was part of Swifts play-off push with 11 goals in 22 games.

Brown said: “Jamie is a great acquisition for us.

“He was one of the players that I had hoped to have brought in when I joined the club.

“But he had been doing well at Brentwood and was enjoying it there.

“But they have had two new manager changes and he became unsettled.

“He has had a lot of interest from club’s in the Ryman Premier but I knew that if he became unhappy then we had a good chance of bringing him to the club.

“He has played for me before and you do build relationships with the players and that does count for something.

“People have made a lot of the budget cuts and say how can you bring him in?

“But with those cuts players have come in for the right reasons.

“He wants to play football and get noticed.

“He is a hungry player and that will bleed off to the other players.”

Also signing on is Marvel Ekpiteta on dual registration from Chelmsford City.

Ekpiteta has played 11 times for City, scoring once.

Brown believes that the budget cut that saw his playing budget slashed may have played a part in their recent upturn in form that saw them move out of the Ryman League division north relegation zone.

He added: “I like to think that the budget changes have been a catalyst.

“There were players earning reasonable wages for not doing that much and we were bottom of the league.

“We were paying wages that were too high for the position we were in.

“Now we are playing bottom of the league wages but have players whose ability is not bottom of the league.”
